Decision to lift Jallikattu ban can only mean more animal suffering

\"World Animal Protection is appalled by the Centre's decision to lift the ban on the cruel bull-taming sport \"Jallikattu\", evading the Supreme Court's upholding to not exhibit and train animals for performance.
“These bulls suffer terribly during the event and in the preparations beforehand. A reversal of the ban in Tamil Nadu can only mean more animal suffering. We strongly oppose animals abuse in the name of historical community practices. Culture is no excuse for cruelty."
“In the past we successfully brought an end to the age-old tradition of bear dancing in India, working together with government and communities on a sustainable solution. It takes time and collaboration to bring a change in the tradition, practice and perspective of people. We urge the Government to reverse its decision and take action to end this brutal exhibition of animals," said Gajender K Sharma, India Country Director, World Animal Protection.
