In March 2026, our Animal Protector Program carried out 13 wildlife rescue interventions, helping distressed animals including an Indian Gaur and Spectacled Cobra return safely to the wild through rapid response and compassionate action.

March was a month of fewer calls, but no less urgency. Under our Animal Protector Program, our team carried out 13 interventions, rescuing and rehabilitating 13 wild animals who found themselves in distress across our communities. Though the numbers were smaller, each rescue represented a life in immediate need—and a chance to choose compassion over fear.

From often-misunderstood reptiles such as the Indian Rat Snake, Bronzeback Tree Snake, Common Wolf Snake, and Spectacled Cobra, to powerful wild mammals like the Indian Gaur, every intervention reflected the growing reality of wildlife navigating shrinking habitats and increasing contact with people.

Behind each successful rescue was the same chain of hope: a concerned person who chose to call for help, trained rescuers ready to respond, and compassionate supporters like you who made that response possible. Because of your continued support, every animal received protection, care, and the opportunity to return safely to the wild where it belongs. Together, we continue to prove that every life matters—no matter how feared, fragile, or forgotten.

Strength Guided Back to Safety — Rescue of an Indian Gaur

On 6 March 2026, an urgent call came from Coochbehar after an adult Indian Gaur had strayed into a human habitation area. The sudden presence of such a large wild animal created understandable concern among local residents and posed risks to both people and the gaur itself. Displacement like this often occurs when wildlife is driven in search of food, water, or safer space as natural habitats face increasing pressure.

After assessing the situation, the Forest Department contacted our expert rescue team for immediate assistance. Responding without delay, our team coordinated closely with forest officials to manage the scene safely and efficiently. Careful planning, crowd control, and calm handling were essential to prevent panic and avoid conflict.

When examined, the gaur appeared physically stable and had no visible external injuries. However, it was clearly stressed by the unfamiliar surroundings and the presence of people. With patience and professional handling techniques, the team successfully secured the animal while minimising additional stress

Following the rescue, the gaur was safely handed over for release by the Forest Department on the same day, allowing it to return to a more suitable natural environment. The concerned authorities will continue to monitor the animal as needed.

This rescue is a powerful reminder that when communities report wildlife sightings quickly and trained responders act in time, even high-risk situations can end peacefully. A potentially dangerous encounter became a story of coexistence, coordination, and compassion.

Safety for Children, Freedom for Wildlife — Rescue of a Spectacled Cobra

On 12 March 2026, an urgent rescue call came from Dalimpur, Alipurduar, where a Spectacled Cobra had accidentally fallen into a sanitary tank inside the premises of a primary school. What began as the snake’s search for shelter quickly became a high-risk situation, with young children nearby and the cobra trapped in a confined space.

Our rescue team responded immediately, making the safety of the students and school staff the top priority. On arrival, the area was secured and the children were kept at a safe distance while trained rescuers carefully assessed the situation.

The cobra was found alert and defensive—an expected response after being confined and stressed—but showed no visible injuries. Using calm handling techniques and professional rescue equipment, the team safely extracted the snake without causing harm to the animal or anyone present

Once the rescue was complete, the cobra was relocated and released the same day in a nearby suitable habitat, away from human activity and back where it belonged.

This rescue demonstrates that even situations involving venomous snakes can end safely when people choose to call trained responders instead of reacting in fear. A moment of panic was transformed into a story of protection, coexistence, and respect for wildlife.
